Application: MIT + FIT AFFOA Online & Hands on Workshop in Advanced Functional Fabrics 2021/2022 (January 3rd- January 14th, 2022)

This two-week program provides a unique, educational experience for MIT undergraduates interested in the design and engineering of products made of fibers, yarns and textiles that a participant can readily apply to future challenges and professional pursuits. 

Students will have the opportunity to collaborate on specific projects with students from Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), the program includes mentor presentations, virtual tours of relevant facilities in Cambridge/NYC, and the opportunity to become familiar with specialized equipment and network of experts. The program itself will enable students to learn about and use novel 3D textile manufacturing methods including Software ad demostrations of Stoll knitting and 3D printing. Furthermore, students will understand how to use these technologies to make aesthetically pleasing and functional products by using non-traditional materials such as bio-engineered or electrically conductive yarns. Finally, by bringing together FIT and MIT students, participants will experience working in multi-disciplinary teams to prototype and develop new products as well as an industry prototyping challenge by Ministry of Supply .

Limited to 6 students each from FIT and MIT. Application deadline October 21st, 2021 at noon.

Please note: this workshop will be remote in January 2022 and there will be a  pre-workshop online self paced pre- component in December 2021 ( Dates TBD).
